From Alex Little -
On saturday we took a short walk to the ruins and took a tour. We learned that there were still ruins underneath the hills that they still had not started digging up. Then we learned that when Christopher Colombus came to the Ukatan Peninsula he saw the Post classic "Myans". He asked Who they were and they said, not understanding what he had said, "Mya Mya". Which means"who are you". So Columbus assumed that they were the Myans.
Also the etymology of chocolate is "be careful it's hot". they said chocolate when they handed the White men Cocoa. So they assumed that that was the name of the drink. funny.
Then we learned how they played the game Pok a Tok. Also, we learned that their underworld was upside down so their feet were touching. We saw a Serpent that was up side down to represent the under world. interesting.
We saw some beautiful ruins and many interesting statues that were actually found near the visitors center.
After going to the ruins we took a ride up to the hotel in small taxis with only three weels. it was a lot of fun. THen we took a ride back to the bus and back to Villa Nueva we went.
That night we ate dinner with Margarita, Tucker and our funny bus Driver Antonio. At dinner it was getting late and all the kids and Marna were getting bored so my dad taught us how to make chickens out of our napkins. that was a laugh.
